About RaceCalc
We build the sim racing calculators we kept wishing existed while setting up our own rigs: exact on the geometry, honest about the limits, free of clutter.
Why this site exists
FOV advice online swings between "set it to 45 and forget it" and spreadsheets that assume you know what "monitor distance" means. The underlying maths is simple: your screens are windows and the sim must project through them. RaceCalc turns that maths into fast, no-nonsense tools that run entirely in your browser.
We also noticed sim UIs hide their FOV behind inconsistent conventions, vertical here, horizontal there, an unbounded slider elsewhere, with no single place documenting which value to enter where. We keep that map on the tool pages, with the formulas behind every number published on the methodology page.
How the tools are built & tested
- Formulas from first principles. Projection maths applied to your physical measurements; no magic constants.
- Tested against known values. Every formula has a hand-verified test case that must pass before deploy.
- Client-side only. No build step sends your inputs anywhere; there is no server that could receive them.
- Corrections are welcome and credited. If a constant or game note is wrong, tell us and we will fix it with a changelog entry.
How the site makes money
Right now: nothing. RaceCalc is independent and self-funded. If we ever add sponsorships or
affiliate links, they will be clearly labelled (rel="sponsored") and will never
affect recommendations. Tools stay free.
Who runs it
A small crew of sim racers and software engineers. We run triples at home, spend too long measuring eye distances, and rebuild rigs more often than is reasonable.
